
Toronto - June 9th, 2009 – As a renowned and successful young graphic designer in Toronto, Canada, with an impressive client list that ranges from media companies to celebrities. Ashley McKenzie-Barnes is a rising African-Canadian artist to look out for. Starting her career upon graduation from Humber College School of Media Arts in 2005, Ashley began to do various work in the graphic design field. Despite her success, Ashley also has a passion, and the creative ability to develop fine art, at the stroke of a brush. In 2006, Ashley produced a customized abstract self-portrait style, that spawned her first solo art collection showcase entitled “Portrait”. The encouragement of her friends, family and peers allowed her to continue the pursue her passion further into the world of fine art. As part of her development, Ashley is currently a member of African-Canadian and Caribbean Diaspora Toronto-based artist collective, called SixAhWi (www.sixahwi.com). The group works on major art projects together, and will be showcasing their anticipated art piece entitled “Mas Hysteria”, at the Nuit Blanche exhibit in Toronto.

Ashley began her high school education in 1996 at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts, with a major in Visual Arts, upon recommendation of her Grade 4 teacher. Her continued interest in designing furthered her education to Centennial College, where she obtained certificates in Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing. Upon graduation, Ashley decided to attend Humber College School of Media Arts, where she later graduated with a diploma in Advertising & Graphic Design, in 2005.
Ashley McKenzie has caught the attention of such people as internationally acclaimed director Lil X, Screen-play writer/actress Trey Anthony, Rez Digital of Flow 93.5FM, Soccer star Julian de Guzman of Spain’s La Liga futeball club, Icegear clothing, and many more. Her roots in visual arts and illustration, combined with her reputation and expertise in the graphic design and the advertising field, makes Ashley a young trailblazer in her creative career. She plans to break grounds within the fine art world, and develop a pathway for younger African-Canadian female artists to thrive from her inevitable success.
