Alexander Ivankov: We couldn’t help but notice the fantastic photos from your collection at the “Asian in NY Lunar Fashion Show”, being of Vietnamese descent, do you find that there are social barriers for Asian models and designers in the fashion industry?

 Ninh Nguyen: Asians are slowly making their mark onto the American scene. In 2010, the CFDA awarded all three top honors to Asian-American designers! That’s a major accomplishment in Fashion. You don’t hear much of Vietnamese designers in America, so I’d like to be one of the first Vietnamese-American designers to be recognized not only for Fashion, but most importantly for menswear. The men’s industry is much smaller than women’s, but evidently as fierce and competitive. There are definitely many barriers to overcome for Asians, but one quality that stands out in Vietnamese people is the fact that we have such a strong devotion to work hard and succeed in life. Nonetheless, if given the opportunity to shine, Asians will only excel. Take for example Jeremy Lin of the NY Knicks. I want to be the Jeremy Lin of Fashion – NINHSANITY!
