One of the hottest events of the summer, the Honey Jam artist showcase took place in Toronto, Canada at the Mod Club on Sunday August 16th. Presented by Phem Phat Entertainment Group, Honey Jam is one of the first and only of its kind and seeks to provide an outlet for Canadian female artists and talent. Now in its 14th year, and spanning all musical genres, the Honey Jam stage has played host to many notable Canadian artists including the likes of Jully Black and Nelly Furtado.

The 2008/2009 economic downturn, initially cast doubt on whether or not the show would continue. Organizers feared that they would not be able to attract sponsorship for the event that pre-dates (and post-dates) Canadian Idol. However these fears have subsided with the announcement that major sponsors such as Much Music, the New Flow 93.5 and the Toronto Arts Council (to name only a few) have stepped on board in support of the event that will see diverse and talented local women compete for the over $10,000 in prizes currently up for grabs.

Prizes include sound equipment from Yamaha, consultation with a Universal Music A&R rep., a photo shoot with Vincent Lions, a hair makeover by Adrian Carew of Hair2Inc., a fitness package from Think Fitness and the much sought after FLOW production prize which includes a track produced by Toronto rapper Solitair.

The 2009 Honey Jam showcase was bigger and better than ever. Auditions for Honey Jam took place earlier in June. Although many auditioned, only 22 could be selected for the final lineup. The 22 artists selected represent a wide-ranging musical spectrum – their talent and diversity are sure to entertain and captivate all in attendance. Honey Jam 2009 was hosted by Much Music’s VJ and socialite Sarah Taylor.

Proceeds from the event go to support the YWCA Toronto’s program for Women and Girls.
