Aliya Leigh's Biography:

Aliya Leigh is an eccentric, hard working writer, producer, editor and online web show host, born in Rosedale, New York on April 19, 1976. Raised in a religious African-American and Native American home, by her father an engineer, and mother an English professor. Aliya Leigh didn’t have it easy growing up her school peers would make fun of her often for her language and hearing disabilities, which took a toll on her spirit. Yet, her parents helped her discover a talent to be proud of through playing the piano. Aliya played the piano well, and well enough to perform at colleges, concerts, and events including one held at the prestigious Carnegie Hall.  Whilst getting into her teenage years, she realized that she was “different”, and had a greater attraction for the same sex, which conflicted with her family’s religious values and beliefs. Upon realizing her sexuality, she became depressed and felt unworthy of living out her dreams.

Aliya  witnessed her aunt go through so much, coming out as a lesbian to her family, and it prompted Aliya to think not to put her family though the same. Aliya felt compelled to write a poem entitled “Killing My Self”, which was about killing the “evil” inside of her. The poem enabled to showcase another talent Aliya had, which was her ability to express through writing. She continued writing poetry, and became very influence by poet and writer Edgar Allan Poe. During this time, Aliya’s parents decided to put her through therapy, to deal with the emotional issues she was going through.

Starting to regain focus, and discovering new talents that overshadowed the negativity she felt around her, Aliya started to excel in school studying computer science, writing for the school’s paper, among participating in other extra curriculum activities. She then got a degree in computer science, and wrote a couple of screenplays and stories. In her 20's, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona with $600 dollars and a dream. While in Phoenix she worked as a computer consultant. She later moved to Tucson, for a stable job and began writing stories again. Then she joined the National Writer's Union and began working part-time as a script supervisor, production coordinator and producer for indie films.
Currently, Aliya Leigh lives in Phoenix, Arizona and works as a producer, writer, and voice over actress, editor and host of her own podcast entitled “Lesbian Life TV”.
