Tiffany Ford Elected As York West School Board Trustee

Tiffany Ford Elected As York West School Board Trustee

TORONTO, ON (Oct. 28, 2014)--It was a landslide win for Tiffany Ford in the Toronto Municipal polls Monday night. Ford was officially elected trustee of the York West school board; beating her closest competitor Matias De Dovitiis (3,230 votes) by more than 3,000 votes with a total of 6,480 votes.

"Our community came out in record numbers, and they have made their voices clear," says Ford. "They want change and they want people who are from our community to lead in supporting our students and creating positive changes for our schools in York West. I'm grateful and ready to work."

Born and raised in the Jane-Finch community, Ford has an authentic perspective of what it means to be labeled an “at-risk” youth, while striving beyond the stereotypes and stigma that marginalized people are faced with in Toronto’s York West community.

“The opportunity to directly influence change for better schools, accessibility to quality education, providing transparency and promoting a holistic approach for serving our young people in York West is an opportunity I must utilize," says Ford.

As the York West Trustee, Ford will have her primary focus on forging the interrelationship between students, teachers, parents, principal's and the community to maximize accountability and transparency.

Ford will also be committed to creating fiscal responsibility without budget cuts to the classroom; promoting safe and healthy school environments; better tools for educators; more funding for schools in York West and more transportation for students.
